On April 11, 2020, the Rock Elm group became a Special Interest Group of the Pierce County Historical Association.

The Rock Elm Old Settlers Group was formed on February 25, 1886. Originally, one had to be a descendant of a person or family that settled in Rock Elm township by 1869. This group has had one meeting a year since 1886. Only four times has this meeting not occurred. In 1918 during the Spanish Flu epidemic, and in 1934 when the Rock Elm Methodist Church (where the meetings are held) burned down, and during the COVID pandemic of 2020 and 2021.
